Greetings!

In keeping with the current Ubuntu Server theme, this month we are happy to have Clint from the Boise Linux User Group share his knowledge of building a LAMP server. We will pick up from where we left off - starting with a basic server. Clint will walk us through installation, some configuration tips and tricks and follow up with a look at installing WordPress to demo MySql/phpmyadmin.

We'll bring some snacks and drinks but nothing hearty so feel free to bring in some dinner if you need it.

Hope to see you there!

What: Ubuntu Idaho LoCo Meeting
Where: Open Lab Idaho, 108 W 33rd Street, Garden City, ID (next door to the Reuseum)
When: Tuesday, January 29, 6:00-8:00 PM (added ½ hr for this month’s topic/lab)
Topic(s): Install & Configure Ubuntu Server

Happy New Year to everyone. We've decided to spend the next few meetings on a new theme: Ubuntu Server. The first meeting will be about installation and configuration of a base server. While building a base server, we’ll discuss various configuration options to prep for various server roles and security.

The few months that follow we will cover related topics, currently on the table: Zentyal, Remote Administration & SSH Keys, SAMBA, Shell scripts, Authentication/LDAP, Email server, FreeNAS, Virtualization (Virtual Box, OpenStack & JeOS), LAMP & web frameworks/apps. Feel free to send us requests for presentations (or to offer to do a presentation).

Notes:

  1. We will be doing a server installation as part of this month's session, so feel free to bring your own machine if you'd like to follow along.

  2. If there is interest, we will also order pizza this round. We ask that if you plan to attend and want pizza you send us an R.S.V.P. at the email address below so we can get a head count. If you don't RSVP we can't guarantee the 'Za!

  3. If you are already familiar with Ubuntu Server, you’re still welcome to come by and help out with those that are learning it for the first time.

Hope to see you there!

Ubuntu Idaho LoCo Meeting 11/27/12

Posted November 20, 2012

If you haven’t already heard, we are rebooting the Ubuntu Idaho LoCo (local community) Team. We will be meeting the last Tuesday of every month, which makes our next meeting November 27th, 6:30-7:30 PM. We will be meeting in the Open Lab Idaho meeting space, near Chinden and Fairview. Physical address is 110 W 33rd Street, Garden City, ID, next door to the Reuseum, across the street from the Payette Brewing Company.

We are modifying the format of the meetings to reduce the overhead, which means a little shorter. Instead of 2-3 major topics, we will be doing 1-2 longer discussions, ending  with a few shorter ‘lightning talks’ or demos – generally 5-15 minutes each.

We have had a few requests to do a refresher on command line, so we plan to review file structure and some useful command line, followed up by a few lightning talks. Hope to see you there!
